How Did Ravenwood High School Get It's Name

Ravenswood HomeRavenwood high school is located on the east side of Brentwood on Wilson Pike, and is considered one of the top high schools in Tennessee, and has been a topic of rezoning issues in the past year, But most people never think about the name, and where it came from. Here is the story, but it's really about the Ravenswood home that has been purchased by the city of Brentwood.

Ravenwood High School is named after the historic family home of James Hazard Wilson II and Emeline Wilson. "Ravenswood" was named after Sam Houston, the best man at their wedding, whom the Indians referred to as The Raven. (Sam Houston was Congressman, State Attorney General and Governor of Tennessee. He was the military hero of the battle of San Jacinto, which won the Republic of Texas its independence from Mexico. He was the first President of the Republic of Texas and later a US Senator and Governor of Texas.)

Ravenswood, Oak Hall, and Inglehame mansions, all built by James Hazard Wilson, remain among the finest antebellum homes in Williamson County

Red Fox

While viewing Franklin equestrian homes Thursday, I noticed this red fox in the back yard. I was close enough to take this shot with an Iphone, approximately 25 feet away.  We he finally noticed me, he jumped straight up in the air and was gone in the blink of an eye.

It's amazing what you can see while helping clients find the perfect equestrian home in Franklin Tn.

Puckett's Grocery

puckett's groceryPuckett's Grocery - A nice place to eat lunch in downtown Franklin TN. To outsiders, this seems a little odd, but in Leipers fork, Puckett's is one of the few places you can get a meal. So over time they became know as a great place to eat home cooked country style food, and they are famous for their sweet potato fries.

So they decided to open another Puckett's in downtown Franklin. The food is the same, and the entertainment at night can be amazing. After all, this is where a lot of the songwriters and stars live.

Mule day in Columbia

mule dayMule day in Columbia - I had the pleasure of attending a Columbia Tennessee tradition dating back to before the depression. This is a bigger deal than an outsider might think. The grand marshal was Naomi Judd, and almost everything associated with the south was in the parade.

It's just a couple of hours in the sunshine enjoying a good laugh.

Deal of the week Spring Hill Real Estate

SPring Hill real estateDeal of the week Spring Hill Real Estate - I came across this home while showing property in Golf View estates in Spring Hill. This home was built by Terry Moore in 2007, and he is know for high quality construction.

At 2160 square ft, the home comes to $75 a square ft. Needless to say, it's a great value, and far surpasses any Spring Hill real estate that I have seen lately. With the large master and all 3 bedrooms on the main floor, and a large bonus room above the garage, this floor plan will suite almost anyone.

Brookfield in Brentwood TN

franklin homeBrookfield is a growing neighborhood in Brentwood, TN. The homes in this neighborhood range in size from 3000+ square feet to 5000+ square feet. Prices range from $405,000 - $680,000 and were built from 1999 - present. These all brick homes have large lots and access to great community amenities including two neighborhood pools. Real estate in this area continues to be in demand.

This true neighborhood feel is enhanced by the zoning for Sunset Elementary School, Sunset Middle School (campus for these two schools is less than 2 miles away) and Ravenwood High School. These Williamson County schools consistently rank among Tennessee's best. For more information on schools go to www.wcs.edu.
